Error on opening AA 3.0 Bad File "AMESettingsUI.dll"

I get a "bad Image" error message when trying to open Adobe Audition 3.0.  (I am not tech savvy, need all the help I can get.)  Message says "AMESettingsUI.dill is either not designed to run on Windows [it has run fine until now] or it contains an error [more likely]...  Try installing the program again using the original installation media [which I have never had since I downloaded it directly from adobe online.].  Error status  0xc000012f."

As far as I can tell, I can either try fixing the bad file or reinstalling the software (if I can find a copy).  How should I proceed?

    Oops, not Windows 8.0  It's 8.1.


    You now need to do what ryclark says above, as there is no way that your original copy of Audition 3 can be validated. The best information we have about this is in the FAQ: Audition 3 and the activation service

    Audition 3 is in the CS2 section, and you have to select a language before you'll see it. One of the annoying things about this whole section is that the actual details of navigating it keep changing - I'm not surprised that people don't see either the way the links work, or the logic behind it!

    What version of Windows are you trying to run AA 3.0 with? have you recently had a Windows update? Unfortunately AA3 is becoming rather long in the tooth and as Windows progresses some of these types of problems come to light. You can find a copy of AA3 online Download Adobe Acrobat 7 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 products It will require you to log in to your Adobe account. Also you need to take note of the Serial number supplied alongside the download. You need that to be able to activate AA3.

    There are a couple of other things which you could try. First instead of just clicking on the Audition icon to start it right click and from the drop down menu find and click on Run as Administrator. Also you could try booting Audition with the shift key held down which will revert Audition to it's default settings.

    Thank you.  I updated Windows 8.0.  I rebooted, then tried the Shift key startup and got the same error.  I tried booting as administrator, with same result.  I found an AA 3.01 patch, which I downloaded, and gave me two options, Repair, and UNinstall.  I tried repair, but it was unable to find a certain folder and file (components.ini?)  So I then uninstalled AA 3.0 so I could reinstall it, but the patch was apparently not a pathway to reinstallation.  I haven't been able to find a download link for 3.0 so if you can provide it to me, I assume it will work (I have my serial number and my product is registered with Adobe), and I'll be out of your hair.  And we'll both be very grateful.  Cheers!
