Question

even with a powerful pc, cursor freezes etc

I have made many 30 minute programmes using Audition, going back to CS6, and earlier. They usually use 6-8 tracks of Multitrack, with typically less than 10 music clips and a similar number of voice clips on each track, on average. I have never previously experienced any siginificant delays from the interface (eg waiting for the volume envelope to move when I click and drag it, or moving the time cursor to a different point on the timeline. I am now using a far more powerful pc than I was until last year, but I am getting 5" delays in the programme catching up with me. The only difference in the programmes is there are far more edits dividing up the clips on each track, eg c500 starts and ends of clips in each track (c.f. say, 20 previously). Could this alone be making the programme so sluggish? (It's really slowing my workrate! 😞  )
Current PC:-  11th gen i5 @3.9GHz; 32Gb RAM;  M.2 disc;  game-rated GPU RTX 3060
Task Manager says pc is barely ticking over.
Info bottom right of Adobe says:
48000 Hz---32-bit mixing---473.63MB---[Dur'n 28.44.418]---22.70Gb free
Re-booting Windows doesn't help
Very occasionally [not running Audition], copying files from USB stick to internal drives brings up a Windows message:
'There is not enough memory to complete this operation'

Thanks for any ideas,

John

Having spoken to the support engineers at the pc maufacturer, I removed all USB ancillaries I could (keyboard and mouse stayed, of course) in particular a USB3 hub (from a new-known brand) and since then it has been very much better if not cured. Fingers crossed.

Does have all the hallmarks of a bus arbitration problem, from what you are describing. It's also worth checking (especially if it's a relatively recent computer) that the drivers are up to date on a regular basis. Microsoft change things so frequently that this has become a neccessity with a lot of machines - especially with things like video drivers. For instance, Nvidia appear to update theirs about monthly - which on the face of it seems rather excessive, until you get screen slowdowns...

Frustatingly, this morning I have had delays again.
I'll check out your suggestions when I have a chance.

Thanks.

PS I regard the Windows message as bonkers - i.e. there is clearly enough memory, but maybe there is a hardware problem with memory access? If I click on the 'Try again' button it does continue, although I may have to do that two or three times for the transfer to complete.
