Question

Files are playing fine - and then all of a sudden stop

I am using CC.

I will be working on a file and it seems fine. Then all of a sudden it won't play. I press the spacebar and nothing happens, or I click play and nothing happens. It just starts flipping back and forth highlighting some buttons.  But no matter what I do, I have to shut down Audition and re-open everyone all over again.

I just upgraded to CC 2019 - however this was happening in 2018 too.

That's certainly not normal behaviour. I think at this point, you should produce the system log file - for details of how to do this, see this thread: Audition Crashed. Now what? Also, there's another rather fundamental question - Mac or PC? And what sort of a system is it? Laptop? Desktop?

But  I have to say that the OS (well certainly Windows) can produce this sort of issue occasionally, although I've only ever really experienced it with file saving, which can sometimes take a while to get going - much longer than it really should.

Also if you are using an on board soundcard with Windows audio drivers Windows can steal access to the soundcard and change sample rates which can bring Audition to a stop. What audio interface are you using with which drivers?

Thank you both. It happens sporadically, so next it happens I can run that system log file.  I am on PC Desktop running Windows 10. This is what I have under sound:
