Getting Audio from Stream Deck to Audition

Hello,

I have a podcast, and I'm trying to implement live sound effects.  I have a Windows PC, Shure SM7B mic, a Xenyx Q802 USB mixer, and a Stream Deck.  Is this possible, and if so, what else do I need to make this happen????  I've been trying all day, but keep hitting brick walls. I can hear the Stream Deck audio through my PC, and while the Shure picks it up during my recording it sounds like garbage because it isn't using it's own channel in Audition.  THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU GUYS CAN PROVIDE!

SOLVED! 

Using A Stream Deck with Adobe Audition and A Mixer

 

Well, it took me months to figure this out, but I finally got it! My solution isn't very elegant, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet. It took some serious trial and error on my part, but here's what I ultimately did.

 

Problem: How do you get the sound triggered by your Stream Deck to play in real time during your podcast? This beats trying to add sound effects in post production!

 

Solution: Get a 3.5mm to RCA or 3.5mm to a 6.35mm headphone jack. Both connections need to be male on either set up. Plug the 3.5mm tip into your PC's headphone jack or the sound card's headphone jack, then the other end goes into your mixing board, usually in the "aux" port. Now go into the Stream Deck software and click on one of the sounds you have programmed. On the bottom the final option is to choose where you want to the sound to output to. Choose your PC's headphone channel, and that's it. Now when you play a sound effect it will play through your PC's headphone jack, and straight to your mixer. You should be able to hear the sound through your monitoring headphones as well.

If you get any type of interference like buzzing or hissing there's an easy fix! Find an SNI-1/3.5 Ground Loop Isolator. I found one on Amazon by $6. The brand name is PAC (Pacific Accessory Corporation) and if that doesn't remove the hissing or interference try adding polarized grounding adapter, or what I've always called them a "3 prong adapter."

I have to say that I quite like the idea of Stream Deck, even though I have absolutely no use for it as part of a gaming situation or podcasting, or indeed anything like that. Essentially, it's nothing more than a controller, and directly it has nothing to do with why the output from whatever it's switching on doesn't appear where you want it to - that's down to Windows, I'm afraid. Windows only likes to have a single record source, and in your case it's set up to be the Xenyx - so nothing from any other source gets a look in.

 

So what do you do about it? There are two possibilities I can think of, although there are potential difficulties with both of them. The first is to download ASIO4ALL and use it as the driver in Audition. This will (or should) let you aggregate more than one source to feed Audition with, so that they appear as individual inputs. You have to go to the advanced settings to see what's available, and with a bit of luck you'll find the internal source. If that doesn't work, which it won't if it hasn't been made visible, then the other option that ultimately will work is to use Virtual Audio Cable to set a direct internal link from the source of your audio into an available track in Audition. The reason that this has some difficulty is that it's a bit of a minefield to set up. Fine once you've done it, but you may feel as though you need to lie down in a darkened room for a while afterwards.
