Getting "The recorded time selection could not be applied" error when creating a Favorite?

I noticed this question has been asked several times, but I haven't found an answer that directly addresses the problem and offers a solution beyond "well why would anybody want to do that?" Adobe makes it clear as mud, and YouTube isn't much better. So I decided to solve the problem myself.

After some trial and error, I finally found the method that works 100% of the time. It requires following these steps in this exact order:

 

1) Select the entire file. You must do this before you start recording

2) Start recording (Favorites > Start Recording Favorite...)

3) Perform the edit or effect you want to save

4) Stop recording & name your favorite.

 

Done! I've tested it repeatedly on different effects, and this is the way. Don't forget to undo the edit you just made to the entire file!

        I also thought I'd point out, it looks like the max selection length depends on the selection length used to define the favorite in the first place.

         

        So for example, instead of defining the fav by selecting my whole 29min file, i copied a small 5sec clip into a new file and made the favorite that way. Unfortunately, any time I tried to apply the favorite to any selection larger than 5secs, it would only process the first 5 seconds.

         

        Again, Adobe this is really unintuitive.
