First-time post!

The Windows update changed some microphone settings with certain apps. You have to turn the app access back on for your Adobe CC apps - here's the fix...

To enable app access to microphone In Windows 10, do the following...

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go to Privacy - Microphone on the left menu
  3. On the right, enable the toggle switch under "Allows apps to access your microphone". ...
  4. In the apps list below, you can control microphone access for certain apps individually.

Yes i have this issue with premier where it says i have a MME device internal error. the audio hardware says the input and output (both set on default) is "not working" Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the speakers, microphone as well as premier and i still get the same problem.. Ive also changed the provacy settings to my mic for all apps to have access. Still nothing. When i have the input set to none then the defaults work but i would like the ability to record scratch voiceovers with the default mic. it has to be the software cause vegas works fine..

Switching default input to 'no input' solves the  lack of playback, but i want to record.

I just began getting the "MME internal error" msg recently in Adobe audition. (ver 2015.1 on WIN10). I just now updated to Audition 13.0.7.38 but the problem outlined below still persists.
In Settings/Privacy my microphone is already set to 'on'.  I can select the microphone as an input from within Audition and it records and plays back fine.

I only get the MME error when I select my preferred input, a Line 6 GX audio interface. Unable to record and there is no playback audio from existing tracks. The Line 6 is not listed anywhere in WIN10's Settings/Privacy

Audacity record/playback works no probs with the Line 6. I have audio playback from other apps and internet, so it's just Audition which is not working.

Try downloading (free) ASIO4ALL and using that as a driver interface. If nothing else, this will give you diagnostics you won't get otherwise. But often this fixes problems like this.

That's working well - thanks Steve.

Hi.

I had the same problem. This solution from Adobe worked for me.

In Preferences > Audio Hardware > Change the default Input to "No Input" > Click OK & test.

Hope it helps you, too.

Try turning off audio input in premiere. Worked for me.

Oh really? Good for you!!!  I have tried powering off everything & just did a restore that wasn't successful. It says it couldn't access a file probably bc of my anti virus software & to disable it & try again. This is just a crazy waste of time, not to mention money. My tech skills have been stretched, & the stress doesn't help .

I honestly don't know if there's going to be a simple answer to this. Yesterday's 'upgrade' was something of a disaster for a lot of people - including me. I don't know quite what they did, but it appeared to screw up a lot of things that were working fine previously, and it took me about five hours (and an OS reload...) to get it all back working again.

First thing though - does the sound on your system work at all, for anything? Or is it just Audition that's failing to connect to it? Device internal errors often point at drivers that need updating...

Oh wow, so it's not just me!!? So unfortunate! Yes, I have sound everywhere except Audition & was just able to finally get it to record, but only in ASIO mode. Now, I can't get it to edit, so simply no MME function at all...I had to uninstall my Lexicon/Lambda/re-install, etc & all of the other re-fresh, re-boot's that go along with it. Now, I'm stuck with no editing capability damn it! I wasn't having any issues until I allowed the update. I'm not sure of what other drivers I would need to update quite honestly. This is where I get very lost!! I appreciate it!!

At least it's working somewhere - that's not so bad. There are a couple of other options you can try, though. Firstly, see if WASAPI is available as a drive class - that might well work. The other option is to download (free) ASIO4ALL and try using that as a driver - that has often been known to solve all sorts of problems, and also gives good diagnostics.
