Help with punch and roll please!

I'm new to punch and roll, but there's something that's driving me batty and I can't figure out how to get it to stop. As I'm recording, and I want to re-record a line, I hit the space bar to stop the recording. Audacity then creates a selection automatically from where I stopped recording to the last place I clicked on the timeline. I then have to scroll all the way back to where I was before moving the playhead to where the error is.

I suspect there's a way to make this not happen, and I would love some advice! I've tried messing with the settings a bunch, but nothing is preventing the above from happening.

My goal is to get it to leave the playhead at the point where I stopped recording and NOT create a selection from the last time I paused recording. There's got to be a way to do this right?
