How can I achieve consistent playback volumes?

Hi all.I use Nero to burn compilations that I have created, for example ... Top 10 Hits of 1975. I always tick the normalise box on Nero and the playback volume of the burnt disc is usually quite consistent. The problem I'm having is when I come across a song without any percussion on it the sound is boosted to the point of distortion. I have Audition CS6 and was wondering if using CS6 would be better overall?All I want is for all the songs on my compilations (quiet without drums and rocky with drums) to all sound the same volume-wise.Any help with this dilemma would be greatly appreciated

Try dropping all your songs into Audition's 'Match Loudness' window. You have a range of settings you can match to; the chances are that the first one in the list will do fine. That's the ITU-R BS1770-3 one. This will make an assessment of all of your material, and you have several parameters to play with, so with a bit of experimenting you should find a result that works for you.
