How can I see what audio format/quality is playing?

Question

Is there a way that I can see what format, bit-rate, etc, web-based audio is in (I'm thinking of something like Vimeo or Youtube) by channeling it into Adobe Audition? Or will it already have been converted by then according to my computer's audio settings? Is there another way to do this--to see what quality of audio is actually coming in via the web?

No, Audition won't do that - it will have been messed into whatever audio format your computer is set to by default by the operating system. The only thing I can think of that might show you that information is Virtual Audio Cable...
