How do I default all imports from premiere pro to stereo?

When I click "edit clip in audition" from premiere pro, and then edit the audio clip and save it, the resulting file is a mono file. I need it to not convert to a mono file and to instead keep it as a stereo file. (The original is in stereo). I have been looking all over for a setting that affects this to no avail. How do I KEEP the file as a stereo file so that it does not convert automatically to mono?

Is your stereo clip in a ‘standard’ timeline track in PP (ie not in a mono timeline track)?

At what stage does the audio from Premiere become mono. Is the audio clip still in stereo when it arrives in Audition? How are you saving the audio after editing it? It should still be stereo when saved out of Audition. If it is is it when you open the file back in Premiere that it has turned to mono?

I tried this yesterday with an audio track in Premiere - selected 'Edit in Audition' and it definitely opened up in stereo. Performed the edit, and saved it, then minimised Audition. The edited file definitely returned as stereo.

But the one thing that's always mentioned in terms of the round trip is that both Premiere and Audition have to be current (at the time) versions - it's not necessarily going to work as advertised if you've updated only one of them. You haven't mentioned which versions of either that you are using - which are they?

They are both 2019 versions. I used to be running older versions but now they are both updated to 2019.
