How do I get this sound?

Lately I've noticed this sound/style on song remixes where it starts with a lowpass and then when the beat drops or chorus starts, it comes in with a hard hit sound and the lowpass is bypassed. 

I'm new to audio editing and I've been trying to replicate this sound (the heavy hit/whoosh) when the lowpass is dropped:

I've been messing around with equalizer, reverb and volume for hours on a generic whoosh sound effect and I just can't get this sound. Does anyone know if there's a particular name for this sound, or how can I make it sound like the one in the link with what effects?
