How do i make an effect stop after a certain amount of time?

I have an effect on my tracks of an echo but I want the echo to stop playing after a few times but it just continues to echo and gets louder and louder even after the track is ended and the only way to stop it is to pause and start. please help.

Turn the Feedback slider down a bit! You should note that you can automate the levels of all the controls, so it's relatively easy to make effects do exactly what you want, when you want them to.

Where is this Feedback Slider you are talking about? I cannot find it anywhere nor is there any videos or info on the web.
