How do I saving an edited MP3 without losing quality?

Hi everyone! I'm an Audition newbie!

I recorded a conversation on my phone for my podcast and got the MP3, then edited out parts I didn't want on Audition. When I hit save, I got the warning that it's being saved to a compressed (lossy) format. The First time, I hit ok, and the audio that was saved was nearly unusable.

So now I've re-edited it, and I can't figure out how to save it without ruining it.

Any help would be amazing, thank you in advance!

Audition opens your MP3 file by decoding it, so that it becomes an uncompressed wav file. It has to do this, because that's Audition's native format. So if you edit this and save it as another MP3 then you've decoded it and re-encoded it again. That generally wrecks MP3 files completely. If you really must have it as an MP3, then the re-save should be at a much higher bitrate than the original one.

If you just want to save the edit though, then save it as a wav file. This is uncompressed, and quite a bit larger, but won't deteriorate.
