How do I stop audition from recording the multi-track when i'm trying to record voice and other sound?

I couldn't figure out how to word this, and i think that lead to me not being able to find an answer myself..

how do i record vocals and other sounds through my microphone using the multitrack, without it recording the multitrack as well?

every time i try record, it records the other music i have already in the multitrack? i want to use the multitrack to make sure my timing and tempo match up, but i just keep getting recordings that arnt just my voice.

I'm assuming that you are using the Windows mixer. If so, you need to alter the record setting so that it records the microphone input, and not the one that says 'stereo mix'. Right-click on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the screen, and select Recording Devices. This will open up a window where you can select the appropriate device.
