Question

How to clear background chatter

Hello, I am editing a video that was provided to me. However, the footage was filmed in a noisy public location. I am trying to find ways to minimize the background chatter, which is really loud. I understand it's probably impossible to get it all out completely however, I just wanna minimize it the best I can without it affecting the main voice of the speakers. The denoise affect doesn't do much and starts affecting the speaker's voice.

Help is appreciated!

Also, of interest perhaps, Version 2 is now available. It's much faster and sigificantly improved.

Depending upon the difference in levels, this beta tool from Adobe may work.

You can also look at Waves' Clarity plugin. It's worked well for me on some files.

This isn't always that effective in Audition. In fact, if it's mono then it's going to be really difficult to shift. To be honest, one of your best bets is to use iZotope's RX software which has specific plugins to deal with just this situation. Whatever you use, you invariably have to play around with the settings quite a bit, though, if you want even moderate success.
