Question

How to export clips, in a multitrack session, as individual files

Hello!

I am still learning how to use Adobe Audition so forgive me if this seems like a ridiculous question.

I am using Audition 24.2.

I have one multitrack session where I am recording VO for an animated short film I am working on. In one of the tracks, I have recorded all of the VO for one character. Each of the lines is separated from all of the others in the track. I am now trying to export each individual line as its own .wav file.

Is there a way to do this? I tried "edit -> Convert to unique copy", I've tried "Right click -> Export audio of selected range markers" and lastly I've tried scouring the internet for answers or shortcuts on how to do this and there is not a straight forward answer except for exporting this as one big audio file and cutting it into individual clips in adobe premiere/after effects which I don't want to do at this point because I am kind of on a time crunch. Please tell me there is an easier way to do this.

Again, I am very new, I've only used this program a handful of times to record a single piece of audio and then export it. I've never had to do anything like this so I am really not sure if there is a workflow step that I skipped or if I have to painfully re-record all of the audio in individual files and then export them.

Thank you!

I don't know how many actual files you already have on this track. How did you record it? Even if there are a lot of individual clips from a small number of files, the easiest way to export them as individual files is to go to each clip, and put a range marker around it (highlight the entire clip and hit F8). This will populate the Markers list, and if you use the 'Export audio of selected range markers to separate files' tool you can have each clip out to a separate file easily. What's better still is that if you want to, you can give each one an idividual title and use that as the file name for it. Or not bother, and use the automatic pre and post options - the choice is yours.

There are 55 clips in total.
I just hit the record button, spoke into my microphone and then ended the recording. Each one is not its own file, it is all on one track in one file.
I've already tried to do the range marker and that didn't work. The markers show up in the marker panel, but the option that says "export audio ...." is greyed out. I've tried this option with individual range markers as well as selecting multiple range markers. The option is still greyed out.

Well, it works fine here - just tried it again to make sure. Please note that these have to be specifically clip markers, not the session timeline markers at the top of the screen; you can't export those. So you highlight the clip itself, select the range and hit F8.
