How to Fix Audio? Sennheiser ME2

I have a brand new Sennheiser ME2 and am have trouble getting decent audio results. Camera is a brand new Canon XA30.

So I have two issues, one more pressing than the other:

1) Figure out what's wrong in my settings...

2) Fix audio in footage already shot

#2 is my concern. Would anyone be able to tell me what's wrong by listening to a short clip? Or should I upload a video clip to YouTube. Please help, if possible.

Thanks,.

Sounds like you recorded too hot and distorted the signal like crazy.  You can't fix that - you have to re-record it, and when you do, turn the recording level down.  I record two ways - into a computer, and into a portable device.  In both cases, I try to set levels so that the peaks are hitting somewhere around -18 dBFS to -15 dBFS.  If you're eyeballing a digital meter, that's at least halfway but not more than two thirds up the meter.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Problem is I can't re-record it. If you were to try and do anything with the audio besides jettison it, in what direction would you go?

I do have a portable device I'll also use in future. Do you just place that somewhere in the room but not in view of the video camera?

    Thanks again...
