Question

How to record yelling

I have a project for a client that I need to complete.  It requires me to yell through the entire set.  What settings do I need to use in order to not have the final product sound blown out and distorted?

As I said, this is how your sample looks in Audition:

There are no signs of peaking as you say and if anything the level looks lower that it could be.

Can you show us an image / screen grab with this peaking you speak of?

Are you recording on a device and then bringing it into Audition?

You will need to give us more detail on what you are doing to help us help you 🙂

@Richard M Knight is correct: if the signal from the mic is to high, turn down the gain if you can

Standing further away may make it sound a bit echo~ish

Best regards, Euan.

Hi,

I'm puzzled a bit by your question. Your sample doesn't show any clipping or such

Of course, this sample is: Conqueror's Blade Rev-4_mixdown.mp3 so perhaps you have tried to fix it?

Wher do you see problems? In the original file recorded?

Best regards, Euan.

Thanks for your quick reply Euan. My issue is that when I'm required to yell, my voice causes the levels to peak. What can I do to keep my volume levels at a normal rate even when I have to raise my voice?

You could turn down the gain on your microphone amplifier, or move away from the mic.
