Question

HUI Mixer to control faders

A simple question. I'd like to get the feel of real faders with audition so am thinking of buying something like an X-Touch. But before I spend the money, I was just wondering if I could mock up the "experience" by using MIDI control with one of my Yahama sound desks in Remote mode? I don't know the first thing about this, so do I simply connect up a pair of MIDI cables to my Focusrite sound card (IN to OUT and OUT to IN???)

What else do I need to know!

If I do spend some money - what would people recommend as the best unit (I dont want to spend more than £500). It would be great to have control of about 8 faders and have jog/shuttle transport controls.

Many thanks in advance

Matt

    HI!

Are there any news in this? I would very much like to use an X-touch with both Audition and Premiere Pro.

    Best regards / Marcus

You might want to read this thread: Behringer X Touch w/ Adobe Audition

Thank you for the suggested link. I had read the post but I am still to learn what functionality is available in PP and in Audition when using the X-touch. It seems no posts on forums or on YouTube describes how it works. Can I adjust EQ with the X-touch? Can I use transport functionality? Trans write automation? Lots of posts are available for other softwares but little on Adobe CC.

Well - I’ll give it a few hours of playing about before I totally give up! Silly question - but any starting help would be appreciated. Do I simply need TWO midi cables and do I plug in to out and out to in-between the. Soundcard and Yamaha desk?

Personally I'd only want to use the USB port - doing this via the MIDI cables is going to be s l o w e r....

Absolutely - but I'd just like to have a play first if possible with any exciting hardware I have to see if I like the feel. i've had a look online and I'm amazed at how many HUI's do not mention Audition! Is this because they don't work in Audition - or just because it's overlooked. A lot of them say "Mackie control protocol" so I'm hoping that means it will work - but will all the other buttons work (SOLO, MUTE, transport etc). I quite like the Behringer X-Touch so far - if it is compatible!

I'm afraid that all attempts that at least two of us have made to get Yamaha mixers to control Audition have failed - miserably. Whilst we think that technically, it ought to be possible we've not seen any patch software or anything - nobody appears to be interested at all. So I, at least, have given up. let's see what Bob says...

If you want some ideas though, have a look at this:

Has anyone tried again since HUI protocol has been added to Audition CC2018?

No, but I might, as I haven't tried recently! In principle, you set it to the ProTools setting (this is supposed to use HUI) and it should work. Whether it actually will is another matter altogether though. Just in case you're wondering, this is with an 01V96 (the original version).
