I cannot insert 2 seconds of silence at the beginning of an audio file and have it play properly..

I have an audio file with 2 seconds each of various sine wave frequencies. I am trying to insert 2 seconds of silence at the beginning. When I do that, the file plays the silence and then stops. I don't want it to stop. I want it to continue playing all the sine waves. When I insert the silence at the end, the sine waves play and it continues into playing the silence. I just can't get that to work when the silence is at the beginning. How do I get the silence at the beginning to play and continue playing the rest of the audio file with the sine waves?

I finally managed to get it to work, but I don't know how. It took me 6 actions. Very convoluted.

When you play the file after inserting the Silence is the first 2 seconds of the file still selected and white whilst the rest of the file is unselected and the usual green colour? If you click your cursor elsewhere in the file to cancel the Selection does it then play correctly from the start?

If it was due to the inserted Silence at the beginning being still selected then you can turn off the option in Preferences/Playback and Recording 'When playback starts within a selected region, stop at the end of the selection' by unticking the box.
