Question

I'm using Adobe Audition 26.0.0.56 - When I import 24-bit 192K audio files (containing scratches due to being transfers of LP records) the playback has distorted audio - the scratches sound bubbly

16-bit 92K audio files sound normal, the problem only affects 24-bit 192K audio and is a recent problem occurring this past week since the latest Audition update

Just for you, I tried this (on a PC not a Mac). Audition both records and plays back 24 bit 192k audio with no difficulties or distortion at all on 26.0.0.56. This is using an RME Fireface UFC interface that I’ve reconfigured temporarily to run at that rate, because it’s simply not necessary for disk transfers, however clicky they are - but hey, that’s your choice...

So - are you running this on a Mac or a PC? Also, what hardware and driver class are you running, if it’s a PC? Audition generally records and plays back exactly what it’s been sent, but occasionally updates cause driver setting changes, which can do all sorts of strange things.

Thank you, Steve. I greatly appreciate you taking the time to look into this problem. When you mentioned the driver settings that this happened once a number of years ago and Sweetwater looked into the matter and it had to do with unusual settings that at first didn’t look right but for some reason worked. This encouraged me to take a look and do some experimenting with the driver settings. It was starting to make me crazy with all the options available but finally SUCCESS! Steve thank you. For anyone else using Windows 11 and an Edirol Audio Capture FA-66 firewire and/or Edirol MA-15D bookshelf speakers who may experience similar audio playback problems in the future after an update, here was the solution that worked for me:

    In Adobe Audition go to:

    Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware >

    Device Class: MME

    Default Input: No Input

Default Output: System Default - Speakers (FA-66)

Clock: Out: System Default - Speakers (FA-66)

    Latency: 120

    Sample Rate: 192000 Hz
