I was hoping to remove floor squeaks from narration, but...

...It's looking unlikely.

I have a nicely sound-damped space in the basement to record. But our house is old and when anybody walks around upstairs I hear floor squeaks. I thought that kind of sound could be removed but that now seems unlikely. When I use noise reduction processes enough to remove the squeaks the process also removes the quality of the narration... 

I've been trying both Noise Reduction and also the Dynamics Autogate. When NR is used enough I get a huge amount of that hollow "bonging chiming" sound. Autogate removes squeaks between sections of dialog and still preserves some quality but then all sound between words disappears and it's unnatural. And squeaking within dialog remains, which sounds bonkers.

I was able to remove steady background sounds and mic hum very well and was even able to diminish breathing so it wasn't prominent but still was present enough to be natural. And the file still sounded good to me. So I was good to go ... except for clunks and squeaks.

If I process a file enough to remove clunks and squeaks the narration is ruined.

Any possible last ditch process I can try or add to my so-called rack?
