ID3 Metadata exporting in some files types but not others (windows 10)

I've been ripping audio from records using Audacity but recently made the switch to Audition. I usually make Wav files for each track, but the only metadata that was being exported was the artist and genre. Yes of course I clicked the checkbox to export metadata, and yes I checked in other apps besides windows explorer and the metadata wasn't showing up anywhere. Out of curiosity I tried exporting as a bunch of other file types, and my results are below. As you can see they're all over the place. You can also see all of the technical files that I have unhidden in case they are somehow to blame. What do you reckon is going on here? Any way I can fix this?

Unfortunately it is a partly a problem with Windows as to what metadata it can decipher. ID3 is only applicable to saved .mp3 files as your image shows. For .wav files the metadata is saved as part of the RIFF file format and again Windows can only see a very basic subset of what info can be stored in the file. Also metadata stored with one file type doesn't necessarily automatically get transferred into that of a different file type.

If you want to try and see more metadata in a Windows folder right click on the column headings and you can then select many more bits of data to show and even more if you go down to the bottom of the dropdown menu and click on 'More...'.

Hmmmm could I create a new RIFF schema with the fields that I need? It seems like the "new schema" option within "metadata display" only lets me add things to the XMP dropdown menus... But couldn't I get up in the guts of the codex and change what fields RIFF provides me with? Or force WAV files to take metadata from ID3? Seems like a silly oversight that WAV files can only be exported using such a limiting metadata scheme.

When working in a Media Archive that required comprehensive metadata attached to archived audio files I used a third party editor called Metadata Touch. It's not free but very useful if you need to do a lot of adding/swapping/editing metadata.

They also do a specific .wav file metadata editor which can translate the ID3 tag info into the RIFF file. It is pretty expensive though IMHO unfortunately. Fine if you are doing this for a living but not for the occasional audio file.
