Importing Markers from File?

I'm using Audition to convert CD tracks to wav's. I have a text file containing the filenames I want them to have, but have no clue how to format this data in a way that Audition will accept (via the "Import Markers from File" feature). Curiously, I tried exporting the default marker data to .CSV, (the only option..) thinking it might provide a template for importing and it didn't, it wouldn't recognize its output as import data,  leaving me to feel that it could be anything at this point, and pretty irritated that it can't understand its own handwriting. I want to do this with a dozen or so discs, otherwise I would just, you know, manually copy and paste each track title, but I figured, 'since I have a computer.....'

I mean, it doesn't even provide a clue as to filetype. The default is *.* Almost leading you to believe it's capable of accepting a rich and diverse variety of filetypes, such as .txt , .csv , .doc , in addition to......

Wav files don't accept marker data as a built-in feature at all. Files in Audition, when markers are added, have them placed at the end of the file - they aren't really a part of it as such. This is good in many ways, as it means that they can be extracted and externally manipulated. Fortunately, if you are running a PC rather than a Mac, there's a tool called CueListTool that gives you a lot more flexibility with markers. It's been around almost forever, and it's free.

    I'm not sure what that means. (Btw, Hi Steve. It's been a very long time.)

    But .wav files definitely do accept marker data, regardless of where it's stored. And if by 'Built-in', you mean built-in to Audition or as an inherent feature of wav files, I can't tell. :-).

    But I might not have been entirely clear about what stage I'm at. I've extracted the audio from a CD to a single waveform (nothing is saved yet) with the default marker data showing the ranges of the tracks. Those markers are listed in the 'Markers' panel, but I don't like the default names of "CD Track XX" and so on.

    I have a text file with the names I prefer already typed out exactly the way I want them, and want to copy those 'filenames-to-be' as a column, and then paste them into a properly formatted file, suitable for import into Audition. I know this is possible because, when you right-click a marker in the Marker Panel, the last item on the context menu that pops-up is "Import Markers from File". What else could this possibly be for?

    Now, I figured out what I was doing wrong. It wasn't the file formatting, a CSV is what it wants and imports just fine, but gives no hint that this might the case.

    Exported existing marker data to a CSV,  pasted the alternate titles over the defaults, but then Audition wouldn't accept the altered CSV.

    I had to select all the existing markers and delete them. 😞 Then the import worked just fine.

    I keep one of my computers completely offline, and its where I keep anything I don't want to lose, and I try to keep as much software off of it as I can. But Audition got grandfathered onto it. (So I didn't want CueLink or whatever it's called)
