Question

In Dynamics Processing, what's the difference between Make-Up Gain and Gain Processor?

Hello, I'm using Dynamics Processing, and I noticed under the Dynamics tab, there's a Make-Up Gain slider, and under the Settings tab, there's another Gain Processor slider with more options.

Are they two difference mechanisms? Thanks!

Basically, yes they are completely different. Make Up Gain is the amount of extra gain applied after compression in order to bring the output signal up to the peak level of the original audio or to suit. The Output Gain of the Gain Processor is difficult to describe and I am not sure if any of us really understand it's exact effect. However it is to do with the way the audio is dealt with by the action of the compressor's processor.

The output gain of the gain processor appears to screw somewhat with the amount of `impact` (for want of a better description) that the gain processor signal has on the processor proper - if you see what I mean. But as ryclark says, what this does to the processing relationships is, er, less than transparent...
