Question

Internal clock? What are these "blips"???

These are in my recordings, and I don't know how they're being generated.

System:  voice booth with Neumann U87Ai into Scarlett 2i2,  Windows machine.   No other electronics in the booth.  Not wearing a watch (the blips are over :02 apart anyway).   No clocks outside of the booth, but these blips almost look internally generated.   Thoughts?

Following up with additonal info:   this happens only when I'm recording in MT, and this appears on the mixdown.   When I record right from "new audio file".... they don't show up!!   Hope this helps...

Hmm... they are not very evenly spaced, and that usually means that they are external, but not always. If this is happening in MT not waveform view, I'd be a bit suspicious about the drive you're using to store the file. Unlike MT, Waveform view doesn't record direct to your final file but to a temp file, and the result isn't a finished file until you've saved it from the temp file. So if the write to the temp file is okay, but the direct to file route isn't, it definitely points towards the drive you're using for storage. Can you try storing to a different drive? A good choice might be to use an external one if you can.

There are other possibilities as well. Is your recording setup anywhere near a hospital?

I'm not near a hospital; in a fairly quiet neighborhood and at least 100' from all surrounding houses.

Per your suggestion, I did two more test recordings and saved one to the "C" Drive and the other to my usual exernal drive (as used in my original post), and now the blips don't show up at all!

So the mystery continues and I'll continue to monitor the issue & get back if I discover something.
