Question

Is there a "paste in selection" function that doesn't have a popup window?

I edit audio books, the popup window from Mix Paste makes it extremely slow.

The usual process is to replace empty parts in between sentences/words with a clean room tone; I have to do it thousands of times per book.

I have made a macro that does "mix paste", then closes the window (Enter) and then presses play (Spacebar), however it is still quite slow.

If anyone knows a solution they'd be of great help

Thanks in advance.

Well, one thing you might want to try is doing your editing in Multitrack view.  This allows you to break up your track as much as you want (without any permanent changes) and if you drag in a short piece of room atmos where you need it.  If you overlap clips in the same track you get an automatic crossfade.

It seemed counterintuitive at first when I started working that way but once I got used to it, my work flow sped up considerably.
