Is there a way to automatically trim dead space at the begining and end of a file?

If you go to Window>Diagnostics you'll find an option to Delete Silence. You can define exactly what 'silence' is for a track, and if you have a lot of similar tracks, you can save the settings as a preset. There's a help page about it here. It's not available as part of batch processing (as far as I'm aware), I think because there's no guarantee that the settings will transfer from one file to the next, and anyway, it's only Favorites that you can insert into batch processing. That said, if you have a fixed amount of silence that you want to remove, it's possible to create a favorite that will do this, and that can be included in batch processing.
