Is there a way to rename the ASIO inputs to common names?

We are using Adobe Audition with a 12 channel IP audio driver. When we set up a multitracking session, the names of the devices that can be used for inputs are: Input 1, Input 2, etc. We have changed the names in the PC settings, but in Audition continue to just see Input 1, Input 2. Is there a way to rename these Inputs so they can be recognized by all users?

I'm afraid there isn't - it seems to be quite a common request, not just related to Audition but most popular DAWs. All the 'solutions' I've seen involve somebody writing a small app to intercept the labels from the USB feed and allocate friendly names to them. The trouble is, that if you change anything at all about the interface - like the sample rate, for instance, you have to pick it all up again. There have been sound device manufacturers who have produced small utilities that would do this (I think E-Mu did one), but they are all device-specific; there's no generic solution.

 

Strictly speaking, it's the sound device manufacturer's responsibility to sort this out, because really it's a function of the driver. Good luck with getting them to do it, though...
