When I go to the time box in the lower left corner and enter 2410 (for 24 minutes and 10 seconds), the position moves to 40 miinutes.  What's going on here?  What am I doing wrong.  I'm in decimal mode now, but tried SMPTE and had the same type of random results.

The result isn't random at all. If you put in 2410, then that simply translates into seconds - so that's 40 minutes and 16 seconds. If, on the other hand, you'd looked carefully at the time format in the box and entered 24:10 you would have got to where you were expecting to. So that's a colon to separate minutes and seconds, and a decimal point to separate seconds from fractions of a second. Having it work out the correct number of minutes from a seconds-only entry is sometimes rather useful - don't knock it!
