Just updated creative cloud and all my Audition files are gone

I thankfully have them all saved to my hard drive but I thought the point of having the cloud was so I wouldn't lose my files.  So when Creative Cloud did it's automatic update ALL the files that I had saved to there were gone!  I did not actively delete them nor was I given a warning of their deletion.  Is there any chance that these files are retrievable, and how likely is this to happen again?
