Leave well enough alone!

I just updated Audition through the cloud app. Started recording and heard what I was playing through the monitors even though I hadn't clicked the little 'I' button next the the Record button. Went to Preferences thinking there might be a 'don't playback when recording' tick box. Nothing. So I went back to the previous version. wasted an afternoon.

Why does Adobe do these upgrades without really checking to make sure everything that WAS working in the previous version STILL works in the so called upgrade? I outlay a fair whack of money every month, I expect better than I'm getting.
