Lost custom settings

I'm so frustrated. 

For the second time since January, I've reached out to Adobe support when Audition (current version 22.6) has stopped playing only what's in a selection in the editor. This time I waited for months to resolve the issue, hoping an update would fix it (it didn't), but also hoping not to lose all my customization settings like I did the first time when the support agent told me the only way to fix the problem was to reinstall Audition. It also takes FOREVER to work with support, and I haven't had the time. 

Today, I had some time and decided to address it. The agent again told me the only option was to reinstall, and when I asked if there was any other way, because I didn't want to lose my customizations again, he said to try rolling back to a previous version. I did. And all my stuff is gone. 

He told me to look for a prefences folder in Documents>Adobe>Audition 22.5 (I'm using Windows 10 Home). I don't have that folder. I have Documents.Adobe>Audition>22.0, but the only thing there is a multitrack session. And I can see the backup from when the original support agent tried to help me in January. I did find what looks to be some of the settings in /user/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Audition (and I see two Audition backup folders there as well) but I don't know what do with them or if they're even what I'm looking for. 

Is there ANY way for me to get my stuff back? Even just trying to recreate one of my effects favorites doesn't sound like the way I had it before, and I can't remember what, if anything, I changed to get it right. I'm desperate. Help?

Update 2: As I was looking for another setting, I found one that was unchecked that fixed the selection issue, too. I don't see where I can delete this thread, though. Nor do I understand why Adobe support didn't have me look for that setting TWICE before I lost hours trying to figure all this stuff out.

A couple of things: With the best will in the world, Adobe help can only offer basic help - simply because they are operating from crib sheets, and don't have any personal experience of using the software. It's not a training issue either; they have to handle a lot of products. Their favorite get-out is to send people here...

 

The second thing (and I think they really ought to get this right) is the location of the actual folder with the settings in. For Windows it's C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Audition\{version number}\ and that will get you to the version you are using, generally by selecting the highest version number. If you save the contents of that folder (with all the subfolders) in a separate directory somewhere, when you reinstall you can have all your settings back by deleting the contents of the current folder and replacing them with the contents that you saved. And, you can always revert to vanilla settings by starting Audition with the Shift key held down - generally you don't need to re-install. Then restore your settings as above.

    Gosh, that explains SO much about how aggravating it is to try and get help! None of them have ever suggested I come here, but now that I know I'll get better information here, it will be my first stop. THANK YOU.

    Update: I was able to get most of my pre-January customizations back by copying the 22.0 folder from one of the backups in the AppData folders, but now I'm back to the original issue, which is that when I have a piece of the audio selected in the editor, it won't play *only* that selected audio. If I can pinpoint which file that would be in, I could replace just that one and hopefully keep the rest of my stuff intact. Any ideas?
