Question

Loud 'click' when I hit 'play' (V1.0, Windows 10)

Greetings,

I'm running an old version of Audition (Verison 1.0, Build 3211.2). I've been using Audition for years, have always loved it.  Since a recent Windows 10 update, when playing back files (MP3), there is a loud click every time I hit 'play' from anywhere other than the beginning of the file. Oddly, if I record a file and want to play it or edit it before saving it, the click does not happen; it only happens when playing back previously recorded files. Also, this seems to apply only to MP3 files, not WAV files. I've never had this issue before. I haven't changed anything else in Audition or in my computer (other than Windows updates).  This is driving me nuts. Any help appreciated:)
OS info: Windows 10 Home,  Version 1703. OS Build 15063.540

64-bit operating system, x64-based processor.

Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio, Driver version 6.0.1.7535

Slight snag here - whenever you open an MP3 in Audition, then it gets decoded and converted to a wav file... and it's been like that forever.

But it's not going to be easy to find out what's happening, I suspect - you're running a 32-bit app with very early audio drivers. Microsoft has done some appalling things to audio since Audition 1, and I wouldn't be that happy running it on a modern machine myself. Initially I'm going to suggest that you might like to look at this FAQ: Audition 3 and the activation service and consider installing this - at least this version uses an ASIO engine, and is known to work fine with WIndows 10.
