Merging markers while recording

The recording stops when I want to set a marker range. I can set marker points while recording, but if I select the markers I want to merge and click on the Merge button the recording stops. Is it possible to allow merging markers while recording?

I've just tried this here, and you can create marker points using F8, select a pair of them in the Marker panel and merge them there without a break in recording at all. That's on a PC. What are you using/doing differently?

I do the same, but on a mac. It seems that this is the difference
