I want to hear the metronome only when recording. I do not want it to play during playback. Is there a setting for this? I am on the lastest version.

Yes, this can be done easily in Metronome Preferences. Once set correctly, it only plays during recording and stays silent on playback.

You can set a keyboard shortcut to toggle the metronome, if that helps. There's no default assignment, but you can set one.

The difference between the two methods is that using the 'm' (mute) button leaves the metronome track in place, whereas the toggle gets rid of the track entirely - it's your choice as to which is more convenient.

You can't switch this automatically, I'm afraid - you have to keep the metronome track open and click on the 'm' button to mute it, and again to unmute it.
