Microphone Not working for Adobe Audition

Question

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have changed the settings for the sterio input. It is set for the mic. The same for Master. I also clicked the R button as well. I have default input, output, and Master Clock set to my microphone. I can hear myself in the mic through my headphones but the track input level meter does not budge. It doesn't pick up any audio. What am I doing wrong?

Is this on a Mac or a PC? Are we even talking about Audition? Assuming that we are, and it's a Windows machine then you should check in the Windows Sound settings to make sure that the mic's working there first.
