Question

Mono and stereo

Hello!

Previously, I could record a track in stereo, recording was from a microphone to both tracks. After reinstalling the application, I can only write in mono mode. There are settings for both channels, but one of them is marked as mono (see image). Tell me, please, how can I record in stereo?

Which Behringer device are you using? The only way you can get a mono mic to record across both channels of a stereo input is to have it connected to a mixer, and panned into the stereo field. Chances are very high that the 'fault' is in the Behringer settings.

I use behringer u-phoria um2. I had a hunch that this was due to an application update, because earlier it worked correctly

Whether it actually worked 'correctly' is arguable, I'm afraid. The norm with any interface device with a single channel mic input is that you'd only be able to record on a single track anyway - either in mono, or as one side of a stereo input. This makes technical sense, and it also makes sensible use of your computer's storage use; a stereo file for a mono source is just doubling up the signal unnecessarily.

The way this is normally dealt with is that with a single mono mic, you record a mono track, and if you want the mic panned into a stereo field, then you set up a stereo mixdown session, and add your mono track as a source track. This track comes with a pan control, which allows you to position your mic wherever you want it in the stereo field. This is the way all other interfaces work - you either do this in Audition, or if you are using an external mixer (not just a USB interface) then you can do this externally. But like I said, that's a waste of storage space on your computer.
