MP3 saving question

Hello,

I am trying to find out how MP3 files are being saved. I open an .mp3 file, cut some parts away from it in Audition and Save it. The result is about 60 percent larger than the original. Why? Audition cannot preserve the original parameters of the mp3 file so it makes some resampling?

Thanks.

Audition cannot handle MP3 files directly - it has to decode them before opening them, and if you want to alter anything about the file, you have to re-encode it afterwards. The file size changes will reflect whatever parameters you have in the original file, and also what parameters you have set to re-save it as a new MP3.

The one thing you should be aware of is that when you re-save the file, the quality will inevitably be reduced - simply because you've re-compressed some already compressed data - it's inevitable.

Thanks a lot, Steve. Now I understand the process.
