Multi-track/podcast editing in Adobe Audition

I'm editing a podcast episode with a host and interviewee in Adobe Audition. I understand that you can select the Left audio and Right audio if you want to make changes to one and not the other, however, when I try to silence a section within the Left audio it silences it in the Right as well despite the Right being locked.

Has this happened to anyone before and are there any ways around it?

Thanks a lot

If you silence L and R correctly you should be able to edit one side without impacting the other.

In this case you could actually consider editing in Multitrack view as this would make everything much easier.

Doesn't do that here. Normally this would happen if you tried to delete content from one channel - you wouldn't have much choice about that either, if you think about it... The way to silence one section without touching the other channel is to mute the channel you want to leave alone, and on the other channel make the selection you want to silence, and go to Efects>Silence. That will mute just that section, and leave the other channel alone.
