Multiple Seconds of Audio Cut from Multi-Track Sessions

Hello,

 

I'm having a reoccuring problem with Audition.

 

I've been recording a podcast using an external interface and a condensor mic.

 

I've noticed multiple times now, as I listen through the playback after I'm finished recording, that the audio will periodically "glitch" and skip ahead a few seconds and I will lose those seconds altogether.

 

I've had it happen 3 or 4 times now and I've tried a couple different things such as unplugging all other audio devices when recording and increasing latency (buffer) in Audition.

 

I'm really not sure what the problem is here so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    The best way to put a file here is to upload it to something like Dropbox, and post the public link to it.

     

    As for the possibility of hard driver failure - well it's possible, but to lose several seconds would imply that it's so far gone that the chances of anything working at all would be remote. One thing that you might check though is that the driver you are using for your external sound device (what is it, incidentally?) is up to date. Another possibility is an interruption caused by a virus checker, or even WiFi polling - they've all been known to cause problems. As has leaving the Windows Sounds enabled...

    I'm using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 - I checked for drivers and couldn't find any updated versions online.

     

    Anti-virus software and WiFi issues were something I had thought of as well so the next time I record I will most likely disable those and see if the issue persists.

     

    Here is the audio example of what happens:

    In this clip you should hear me say "he would just stare at the marble that would become his sculptings..."

     

    Instead, "at the marble" is cut out.

     

    This isn't the most aggregious of examples but this is what it sounds like and what happens.

    Are these skipped parts missing from the saved file? Firstly, are you recording in Waveform or Multitrack view? On a Mac or a PC? If this is in the saved file, can you provide a sample of it, please? At present there's absolutely nothing to go on.

    Thanks for your reply.

     

    The skipped parts are in fact missing from the saved file.

     

    I am recording in multitrack view with only a single armed-for-record track active at any given time.

     

    I am recording on a PC.

     

    I'm not sure how I can provide a sample as I don't see a way to attach an audio file to a forum post.

     

    Is there a way to do that?

    I am by no means an expert, but the problem you are experiencing strongly suggests to me that your hard drive may be failing.

     

    You've clearly carried out the obvious "checks", like increasing the buffer size, without any change.
