Multitrack session not open error message

I was creating Audio programs. I've NEVER played around with multi-track files. I would simply click "New," then choose "Audio."

I took a break, and when I came back and tried it again, I got the message "Multitrack session not open. Mixer controls are enabled only when a multitrack session is the active document."

I closed all my files and restarted Audio a couple times, but the problem persists. I also double-clicked on an audio file I created earlier, but it didn't open. What do I have to do to create a simple audio file?

Thanks.

That's absolutely correct - you're in Waveform view, and have accidentally clicked on the Multitrack mixer option. At the top of the screen, assuming that you want to create a new file, it should say 'Mixer' in bold, and next to it, 'Editor: Untitled 1 *' and it's that bit you have to click on to get the editor screen back. This puts Editor as bold, and Mixer in lower case. All the star means is that you haven't saved the track yet.
