my interface

i purchased my m-audio 192/4 interface and downloaded drivers.  audition recognizes everything..i have everything set to default..buffer at 512..sample rate at 44100..when i hit record sometimes i get lucky but sound just stops mid recording and then doesnt work at all..ive tried adjusting what i listed above..again itll work for a take or two and wham NOTHING..sometimes it doesnt work at all..ive switched back and forth between monitor and two way minitor speakers...same issue...frustrated..i can usually figure stuff out but i know when to ask for help...help
