Question

Need clarification on JKL Shuttle (Audition CC build 11.1.1.3))

The documentation is a little vague:  "Press the J, K, and L keys to shuttle backward, stop, or shuttle forward. Repeatedly pressing the J or L key gradually increases shuttle speed. (To change the default, set JKL Shuttle Speed in the Playback preferences.)"

With Edit Preferences Playback JKL Shuttle Speed set to Half Speed here's what happens.  If I press J once it goes forward at half speed.  If I press it again it goes backwards at half speed, if I press it again it goes backwards at normal speed. If I press it again it goes backwards at double speed, If I press it again it goes backwards even faster (4X speed?) etc.

After pressing K (stop) and hitting Play again pressing L makes it go forward at double speed, pressing L again makes it go forward even faster (4X speed?) etc.  (and remember, in Preferences it's still set to Half Speed)

If I set preferences to double speed J makes it go backwards at ever increasing speed depending on how many times I press it, and L makes it go forward at ever increasing speed depending on how many times I press it.

I haven't found any option that makes it go forward at any less than 1/2 speed, which is what I originally wanted to do.    This all seems very inconsistent and not symetrical.  What is the official, intended, correct behavior on this?

Is this a bug?  Is it documentesd better somewhere else?  What's up with this?   Thanks in advance.

Works fine here on a PC - does exactly as it says in the manual. What actually happens with this control is that there is a range of speeds that Audition can play at, and you can either step down through the range using the J key, or up through it using the L key. So if you don't hit the K key to stop playback (which should reset the playback speed to normal) then the range will step forwards - which means that if you were going quickly backwards, then the initial hit on the L would still leave you going backwards - but less quickly. Repeated hits would eventually get you going forwards at an increasing speed. But the K key should reset this so that the first step in either direction after you'd hit it would be whatever you'd set it to in Preferences>Playback and Recording. There is no option to make it shuttle at anything less than half speed.
