Need help on ideas on how to reduce static in recorded speech

Hello All, I could use some technical help.

Problem: 'Static-y' noise during speech, NOT in the background (I've already removed the background noise)
Example: https://soundcloud.com/pondering…/hissy-sample/s-RW8yMomkn4A

Likely cause: Guest used her laptop's built-in speakers and mic, even though she was advised to use an external mic and earphones.

Apps used: Zencastr for remote recording, Adobe Audition for editing. File is WAV.

Secondary problem: The horrible echo/reverb. I'll live with that, and I've already removed some of it with DeReverb. She recorded in the worst space possible even though she was advised not to.

I know you can only work with what you have in terms of the original quality, so I appreciate any ideas of what I can check or do to help reduce the static-y voice. Thanks!

The only thing you might be able to improve is the sibilance - which is probably what you mean by 'hissy' - the sound that happens every time she says 'ss'. If you go to Effects>Amplitude and Compression you'll find the DeEsser. You will have to play around with the settings whilst previewing the material, and this is quite a vicious example, so you may also need to apply some EQ as well to roll off everything above 5kHz a little before you try it.

But yes, mostly this is down to an awful laptop mic.
