Need to go back to simple Adobe Audition layout

Out of nowhere, the layout I use with files in the left hand corner, the controls at the bottom, and numerous tracks on the screen is GONE.   What happened?     It won't even let me change latency settings, etc on setup.

How do i get it back to the simplest of simple layouts for recording files and then switching to multitrack and assembling those files in a multitrack screen.

the very basic of basic.

Is my hardware messed up??
