So, I just downloaded Audition from my company's creative cloud, because music making has always been a hobby of mine and I thought it would be close to Garageband. I had been using that for the past year over other programs because I have a Mac and it came with it. I know realize all I can see that is the same is that both have a play button. If someone could help me out on differences and similarities, that would be great!

There ia a lot of crossover between the two. But the main difference is that Garageband is a music making workstation complete with MIDI, instruments, keyboard control, piano roll notation etc. Audition is purely an audio editing and multitrack recording and mixing programme with no MIDI functionality. But it comes with a lot of built in features for manipulating audio, removing unwanted noise and clicks, mastering final recordings and doing audio post production for video in conjunction with Adobe Premiere.
