No audio when trying to record

Recording starts when I press the red button, but no sound levels show and nothing is there when I play it back. I'm just trying to get this to work with my laptop's microphone right now so there's nothing else plugged in. I was able to record fine this morning but suddenly I can't. I haven't manually run any software updates since then.

I did just use a website that was asking me for permission to use my microphone, and since then I can't record. Don't know if that's related but thought I'd mention it. I've tried restarting my computer to try and clear any weirdness that might have created, hasn't helped.

If anybody comes up against this in the future - weirdly it was fixed by going to Preferences, changing the Audio hardware input to 'no input' and closing the prefs box, then going back in and choosing the default mic again.

Well thanks for telling us what cured it anyway - it may well help somebody else!

Initially you should to go to your Mac's security settings and make sure that Audition still has permission to use your mic. On a Mac, if the transport moves and you can't record from the internal mic when it's set to, it's almost bound to be a security setting. If the transport doesn't move, then your sound device is disconnected from Audition but if it does, then check the security settings.

Hi Steve - unfortunately it does seem to be fine in the security settings?

In that case, in Audition look at the settings in Edit>Preferences>Audio Hardware and make sure that your microphone is selected, and that in Audio Channel Mapping that it's available as an input.
