Not able to get edited recording to play edited version in Multitrack

Hi!  I am very very new to audition and podcast editing with limited knowladge of it all.  But I am here to learn.  I am on a MacBook and audition is up to date.  My problem is this.  I have fine tuned edited a file using both waveform and spectral display.  It sounds great.  When I open the file by itself, all my work is done.  But, when I import the same file into a multi-track Mixdown and play it, the file goes back to how it sounded before I fine tuned it using the spectral display and it does not sound good.  How do I get the edited file to play the edited version in Mixdown?  Thank you for any insight.

When you made the changes in Waveform view  did you 'apply' the changes and then save the file?

Ahh, shoot, no I did not.  I went in just now to check if I could edit a little more and then hit 'apply' but 'apply' did not light up.  I am wondering if that is becasue I was never using the effects rack when edititng?  I had both waveform and spectral display on my computer and I was using mostly Time Selection tool (in wavefiorm) and Spot Healing tool (in spectral display).  Using those two, I went through and cleaned up what I could.  Would 'apply' light up after I make changes that way? Thank you so much for your help!

"Apply" becomes active only if Effects are used in the Effects rack.

But, as SuiteSpot asked, did you actually save the edited file?
