Question

Not recording; playhead moves but flatlines; no waveform or sound.

When I record (from any mic), it looks like it's starting to record, but nothing shows up but a flat line. No sound. No waveform. I checked all my settings. The right mic is chosen. I checked my Privacy settings on my Mac. Audition has permission to use it. This was never a problem before. Don't know what else to do.

Need a little more information here: Are you trying to record in Waveform or Multitrack view? Does the mic work okay with other apps? Has it ever worked with Audition (that's not entirely clear from your post)?

I'm trying to record in Multitrack. Yes, the mic works in other apps like Zoom. Yes, it has always worked in Audition. I've been recording for years with this mic in Audition, so I can't figure out what's wrong now. I read that it could be from downloading the latest operating system on my mac, but I checked my privacy settings and Audition does have permission. I have no idea what to try next. Thank you for trying to figure this out!

I think it's safe to assume that the mic is aggregated into the system, otherwise it wouldn't work with other apps. And you've checked the security setting, and that's okay. It's Multitrack recording, so it's direct to file, so that should be okay too. The things you have to do in Audition (which I'm sure you're aware of) are to select the correct source for the track you want to record on, hit the R button and start the transport. When you say that it looks like it's starting to record, does this mean that it puts up a red section of track, and then the transport doesn't move? If that's the case, then something has happened to the connection between Audition and the sound system in the Mac, because that's the one thing that will stop the transport moving. If it's not that, can you describe in more detail exactly how the failure looks?

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
